ABOUT NICHOLE RENEE

“Keep it Moving” is a phrase I say at least 5 times a day because a lot of crap happens that makes me really want to just “go off” sometimes.  But instead, I “Whoo-sah,” count backwards from 1,000 and I’m good!  We allow distractions, pleasant and unpleasant, to keep us from accomplishing what’s most important. Sometimes we need to just catch a quick breath and FOCUS.

The Start of the Blog

The blog actually started as a personal manifesto in December 2012.  My mom was a blogger and got me started.

At the time, I had just started working out with a fitness trainer and changed my diet due to a health issue, and I had tons of info to share.  The blog started to take on a life of its own and it would cover the areas of fitness, dieting, my family (hilarious stories about my grandma) and other random topics.  Most topics floated in the area of self-determination, focus, goal setting, life lessons and discipline.

For a living, I counsel teenagers and give advice to their parents.  For the last two years, I also found myself guiding and counseling my college interns on life outside of school. Much advice was given to avoid pitfalls on the job as well as their personal life.  Additionally, new friends and experiences acquired through my recent divorce gave me a new perspective on life and yet one more layer to share.  I can’t tell you how many people (single and divorced) my experience helped.

The defining moment, was a nurse that I met while I was visiting a friend in the hospital.  My friend told me about this nurse and how she was having problems finding a man.  The young lady was in her late 20’s/early 30’s, professional, beautiful (inside and out), in great shape and very passionate about her job. She like a number of women felt the pressure to settle and cut corners in order not to be alone. I went to her privately with a word of encouragement and told her my story. I saw a sense of relief come across her face the heaviness from her heart lift.  That very moment confirmed the new direction with Keep It Moving.  I had been toying around with the change for a while, but she gave the nod to solely focus on relationships and life lessons.

Why I am qualified to talk about the things I talk about

  • 20+ years dealing with church “folk” in various service and leadership capacities
  • 18+ years dealing with teenagers in the middle and high school setting
  • been married
  • been divorced
  • been a step parent
  • raised two teen-aged girls (I should be able to stop here right?)
  • was a caregiver to my 80-year old aunt with dementia in my home for almost 3 years (Miss ya Aunt Gladys!)
  • lived in fear
  • spent a winter with no heat
  • re-entered the dating scene as a 40-year-old

What you will get from me

In no way do I consider myself a relationship or people expert.  But like Lian Neeson said in his classic line in the movie Taken, “What I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career (of course, minus all the violence).”

I am a story-teller and with the set of skills that I have acquired, coupled with my transparency with personal issues, trials and experiences will help you to avoid some of the common pitfalls that life throws.  I am sure you will see some of yourself here and feel encouraged that you are not alone.

This blog will provide you with life lessons to help you avoid the DRAMA that comes along with dealing with people. Accountability and mental health is also a part of that, so I like to share encouraging links, funny and quirky photos, good books and words of inspiration.  It’s my simple attempt  to weed through the drama…and have FUN at the same time!

What I LOVE to do in my free time

When I “create” free time, I love to watch TV and movies (mostly On Demand), reading blogs, eat ice cream, spin/cycle, find nice quotes, and laughing with my friends.

Enjoy this blog, subscribe, leave lots of comments and share it with others!
